Former Hawks Return To Nest![]() As the Merseyside Nighthawks prepare for their season opener against the Doncaster Mustangs, they can now announce they have brought even more experienced coaches into the fold, all former Nighthawks returning home. First on board is Craig Pennington. Fresh from captaining the Coventry Jets defence to the BAFL Premier title in 2008, Craig will be coaching the Nighthawks' linebacking group, and assisting defensive co-ordinator Sean Mooney. Craig boasts a wealth of playing experience having played for the Lancashire Wolverines, Coventry Jets, and represented Great Britain since his last stint at the Nighthawks. Craig is also currently cutting his coaching teeth at BUAFL newcomers, the Liverpool Fury, where he acts as defensive co-ordinator.Also arriving from the Coventry Jets, via the Liverpool Fury is wide receiver Joe Black. Joe also brings with him his impressive CV, having also played for the Lancashire Wolverines, the Birmingham Bulls, Norwegian semi-pro team Eidsvoll 1814s and is currently also in the Great Britain fold. Joe will be lending his experience to the Nighthawks already talented wide receivers, and assisting the running of the offence. Joe is also currently the head coach of the Liverpool Fury, the BUAFL team he started. Joe commented "It's great to come back to the club that gave me my first taste of the sport and be able to offer them the benefit of my experience. I'm really looking forward to helping push the Nighthawks to the top". ![]() Tim said "Having Derek on board is a great boost to the offence, and to me personally. I feel I've learned a lot in only a few weeks, and look forward to testing myself against the best BAFL Division 1 has to offer". As well as the obvious boost this gives to Nighthawks both on and off the field, the team are delighted to be building links to local BUAFL program, the Liverpool Fury, as they look to build stronger foundations for their own future.
