The Merseyside Nighthawks (4-5) play their final game of 2018 this weekend as they take on the Sheffield Giants (4-4). The reverse fixture earlier in the season was close in the first half, before Sheffield ran out as comfortable winners. With the Nighthawks having home advantage, and riding a 3 game win streak, they will hoping that this final game finishes with a much different result.
Merseyside have had a rollercoaster season but have the chance to finish .500 with a win on Sunday that could potentially see them finish third in the Premier North, depending on how other fixtures play out. With the Great Britain Lions in action last week, the majority of the Nighthawks have had a couple of weeks to rest up following their game which was a home win against the East Kilbride Pirates. Not all the Nighthawks have been able to take it easy however as ‘Hawks veterans Alex Eager and Harry Routledge were away representing their country as wide receivers for the Lions, who managed to take fifth place following a win in their final game against Denmark.
Sheffield still have to play the undefeated Premier North champions and reigning Britbowl winners the Tamworth Phoenix, so will be keen to pick up a win against Merseyside as they aim to clinch third spot ahead of the Nighthawks and Edinburgh Wolves. There is plenty at stake this weekend. Kick off this weekend at 4pm on Sunday at the JMO Sports Park in Skelmersdale (WN8 8BX) and entry is free to all. Don’t miss your last chance in 2018 to come and support the Nighthawks!
