Following two very impressive seasons in the Premier North Division, the Nighthawks will be looking for even more from their third season in the top flight of British American Football. A solid preseason, featuring another very successful residential camp weekend in Sheffield combined with good recruitment across the Merseyside region, should mean that the Nighthawks can hit the ground running once again, despite being the only team in the country yet to have played a competitive game as week 5 of the schedule approaches.
After leading one of the most potent offences in the country for the past two years, quarterback Ben Robinson returns under centre alongside wide receivers Harry Routledge and Alex Eager, both of whom have represented Great Britain. The Nighthawks offence should put up plenty of points again and defensively will be strong once more under the leadership of middle linebacker Mark Houghton and defensive end Greg Williams.
The newly promoted Manchester Titans (1-1) have had a mixed start to life in the Premier North. They were comprehensively beaten nearly three weeks ago by Tamworth, before logging a one sided win of their own against the Sheffield Giants last weekend.
Merseyside will be keen to start their season with a bang this Sunday as they look to improve upon their 7-3 records of the past two seasons and should need no extra motivation going up against a local rival. The game will be played at the National Speedway Stadium in Manchester (M12 4WB) and will kick off at 3pm, immediately after the Titans U19s v Nighthawks U19s game which kicks off at midday.
