Nighthawks @ Phoenix : Preview

This Sunday the Merseyside Nighthawks (1-3) travel to face the reigning Britbowl champions, the Tamworth Phoenix (3-0). Even coming off the back of their first win of the season last weekend it will be a tough test for the Nighthawks having already lost to the Phoenix at home this season.

Last weekends game against the Manchester Titans came down to the last second as Merseyside got their first win on the year but the ‘Hawks will be disappointed they let the Titans into the game in the fourth quarter having been in front for almost all of the game. Defensively there is work to be done but the line, led by defensive MVP on the day Ste Kilgannon, showed good signs of improvement and were much better at stopping the run than in previous games. If the linebackers and defensive backs can shore up their coverage then the Nighthawks will be in a much better position to perform moving forward this season as the offence will always put up points with quarterbacks Ben Robinson at the helm.

Tamworth were in European action last weekend and earned themselves an impressive win against the Oslo Vikings to take third place in the Northern European Football League. They’ll be looking to continue their winning form against Merseyside as they aim to defend their Britbowl title.

Kick off is at 2:30pm this Sunday the 17th of June and the game will be played at Pack Meadow in Coleshill, B46 3JE. Anyone who can’t make the game can stay tuned to our Facebook page for live updates throughout the game.
