Coming off a bye week following four consecutive games in June, the Merseyside Nighthawks (1-5) have their last away game of the season this weekend as they face the East Kilbride Pirates (0-6) in Scotland this Sunday.
Merseyside’s last game, also played in Scotland, was a disappointing loss to the Edinburgh Wolves that put the nail in the coffin on any slim playoff hopes the Nighthawks may have had for this season and marks the first time since 2012 that the ‘Hawks will be without playoff football. Their opponents this weekend, the East Kilbride Pirates, are currently at the bottom of the Premier North table but a win would see them swap places with the Nighthawks as the Pirates fight for survival.
While Merseyside have had the better of East Kilbride recently – 4 wins in 4 games over the past 2 seasons – it’s fair to say that the Pirates will need no extra motivation this weekend to get one over on the Nighthawks in what looks to be an exciting matchup. The game will be played this Sunday the 8th of July at GHA Rugby Club with kick off at 2.30pm.
